The Association recently learned of the death of 550 Squadron veteran John Elliott. John 'Jock' Elliott passed away peacefully in May 2024 just 5 days after his 101st birthday.
P/O J Elliott was the wireless operator in the F/Lt J C Lord crew.
John left behind his wife, Thrity, daughter, Lindy and step-children Soraya, Edul and Shiraz as well as his grandchildren.
Never one to shirk his duty John not only carried out a full 30 flight tour of operations, but also held a commission in the Air Training Corps for over 20 years.
Later in life he was also Vice Chair, and then Chair, of the Beds and Buck Branch of the Air Crew Association.
Jock wrote a fascinating account of his time flying with Bomber Command in the book:
"Flying with the Lord: The Recollections of a Bomber Command Wireless Operator" (ISBN: 978-0-9547009-0-4, February 2004).

"[This memoir] is a sensitively written, factual, and often humorous account of [John Elliott's] life before, during, and subsequent to the Second World War ... As very young men we found ourselves in a situation where we became adult in a short space of time. It was fortunate that our crew became friends on the ground and trusted each other's capabilities in the air without question. We were a crew of seven. We had the help of an eighth crew member - "Lady Luck" - who flew with us and most Bomber Command survivors ... Jock's [John's] recollections make compelling reading and deserve to be distributed as widely as possible. - Flight Lieutenant Jim Lord (Foreword)"
