The reunion in 2013 has special significance - it is the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Squadron.
The aim is to make this reunion that little bit extra special.
There will be a formal seating plan for the Saturday evening dinner in order to get a quite large number of people all seated at one time together.
There will be no formal seating plan for the Friday evening dinner.
Friday 5th July
13:00 onwards Elsham Wolds Museum [NB: late addition: not in the May Newsletter]
The opportunity to visit this museum to No. 1 Group. Only ca.20 mins from NK.
Rendevous at NK - Transport can be arranged for those without cars.
Indication of numbers needed.
17:00 onwards arrive Ashbourne Hotel, North Killingholme
20:00 Informal Dinner (no seating plan). Cost £18.95 per head
Saturday 6th July
08:00-09:00 Breakfast
Flypast Confirmed - timing is assumed to be 14:00 (as per the formal request) but that may vary and notice will be given if
it does change.
Event schedule: depends on the time of Lancaster flypast. The outline schedule is now published; the day will include:
- A buffet lunch in the Amethyst Hotel, East Halton
- Service in St. Denys' Church
- Laying of the wreaths at the Memorial Stone
- BBMF Lancaster Flypast
- Afternoon tea in the Village Hall
19:30/20:00 Formal Dinner in the Ashbourne Hotel
Patrick Otter will be on hand to sign copies of his new book "1 Group: Swift to Attack".
The book covers the complete history of No. 1 Group from its formation in June 1940. 368 pages cover all raids flown by No. 1 Group with many photos and aircrew anecdotes.
550 Squadron and North Killingholme receive a fair coverage. Recommended reading.
Sunday 7th July
No formal plan, but George Turner as kindly agreed to conduct a tour of the North Killingholme airfield for those who wish to visit.
No advance booking is necessary; start 11AM.
Monday 8th July
For those able to stay longer: Arthur Punchard hopes to be able to organise a tour of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby (about 40 miles from NK)
with access to the inner part of the hanger housing the Lancaster that is not normally open to the public (tentative plan at the moment and there is no guarantee at this time). Admission charge £6
A light lunch in the Leagate Pub in Coningsby could be arranged. It would be helpful to gauge interest, so if you wish to take part contact Don Kentish
or email into the web-site and messages will be passed on.
A visit to Petwood Hotel (devoted to Dambusters of 617 Sqdn) is also possible depending on the level of interest.
