550 Squadron Association Visit
In May 2018 the Squadron Association visited the Jalhay Memorial in order to lay a wreath in memory of the F/Sgt Jefferies crew. Peter and Sally Coulter with Jean Claude Pauly at the crash site near la Gileppe (Lake Gileppe is located in east of Belgium near the city of Verviers).
Sgt Earnest Hall, RAFVR, 419 (RCAF) Squadron
Close to the Jalhay crash site is another memorial to a single airman (not of 550 Squadron) found hanging by his parachute from a tree. That crash is from before the date of formation of 550 Squadron, but the airman was found by the father of Jean Claude Pauly (who was in part responsible for the 550 Squadron memorial) and the families kept in touch for many years after the war. A cross of rememberance was also placed for this RAF man.
Sgt Earnest Hall, RAFVR 1527080, son of Henry and Bertha Hall, of Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, Irish Republic, flew with 419 (RCAF) Squadron. He died 30/05/1943 aged 27, and is buried in Hotton War Cemetery.
