The F/O McCarthy crew were posted to 550 Sqdn from No. L.F.S. w.e.f 11.8.44:

F/O McCarthy and crew failed to return from the raid on Gelsenkirchen on 6 November 1944 when flying in PB562. On this occasion the crew was flying without Sgt Doherty the regular R/AG, rather with F/O F M Kennedy DFM who had previously flown with 625 Sqdn:

The body of only one of the crew was recovered. Sgt Kendrew is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, thus the remainder of the crew are commemorated on the walls at Runnymede.
